Great Britain, 1902 Proof Five Pound -
Die polish appears on coins as hairlines that may impair the appearance of the coin, and this results in a lower technical grade. This is the reason the 1902 gold proofs tend to grade on the lower side. This particular example here, sourced from Germany, is free from major die polishing lines. Unfortunately, it has been somewhat mishandled, resulting in a light sprinkling of bag marks over both ‘verses. Nevertheless, it is an attractive example of this popular issue that would look comfortable in a PR61 holder. Mintage 8,066 pieces.
