Great Britain, 1817 Sovereign -
Whilst all George III sovereigns in Mint State are scarce, the 1817 has been particularly sought-after in recent years. It’s the first modern sovereign, an ideal type coin, and somewhat harder to find than the 1820. The present coin was sourced out of Athens, Greece, and looks every part MS63. The fields are minimally marked, the strike is bold, and the lustre is full; old auburn and russet tone fills the devices and legends, attesting to the coin’s originality. If you’re a sovereign collector seeking a representation of the United Kingdom’s first modern sovereign, this is an ideal coin.
