The 1930 penny is Australia’s classic coin rarity. Struck in limited numbers, it is known today by only a few thousand circulated coins. The coin has a large following, even amongst non-collectors, and sells for low five figures in heavily circulated grade; superior circulated coins sell for closer to $100,000 than to $50,000. The present coin is graded a very respectable XF40 with PCGS, and is one of the better examples we’ve handled in recent times. It has a virtually full centre diamond, full lower band, and is well-struck around the “N” of “ONE” on the reverse (which is typically weakly struck). On the whole, this coin is a conditional outlier, better than average, and a suitable keystone piece to a superior Commonwealth coin collection.
