While all pre-1955 proof coins are rare, the 1947 proof florin is known by just one coin in private hands. The only other example known is showcased in the Melbourne Museum collection, and is not available to collectors. The present coin was sourced out of the collection of Commonwealth coin authority and numismatic author Jerome H. Remick. Whilst Remick collected all British colonial issues, he was partial to Commonwealth proof and pattern coins, and was able to source a number of key rarities, including a uniface 1937 crown and florin, several square pennies, and the present coin, a proof 1947 florin.
