Great Britain, 2017 Platinum Wedding Sovereign -
In 2017, the Royal Mint issued two lots of proof St George reverse sovereigns. Seven hundred and fifty pieces were minted on the 6th February 2017 to commemorate the 65th year of the Queen’s reign, and a further 750 were minted on the 20th November 2017 to commemorate her Majesty’s 70th platinum wedding anniversary. The reverse and obverse of these two coins are identical, although the Royal Mint packaging was altered to help distinguish between the issues. The combined mintage of these scarce coins is a mere 1,500 pieces, which is not that common by most measures. If you’d like a standard St George reverse sovereign from 2017, without any of the frills and accoutrements that accompany the other sovereign issues of 2017, this is the sovereign to get, as it’s the only 2017 sovereign issue that bears the standard design. Equal-second finest graded by PCGS (7/18).
