Great Britain, 1902 Proof Two Pound -
Although the 1902 proof £2 is reasonably available in lower PR grades, it is very difficult to source one in grades PCGS PR63 or better. (In fact, the finest-graded example of this type is only PCGS PR64.) Indeed, if you run the ruler over the coin’s population with the numbers from the PCGS Population Report, you’ll find the average grade of a proof 1902 £2 is only 62.16 (January 2013). That’s low. The coin photographed above is only graded PCGS PR63, but is over three quarters of a point better than average, and the second highest grade in which the type is currently available. Don’t let the grade scare you—this is a superior coin and would suit a Set Registry collection or high-grade type set.
