Ex-Spink Numismatic Circular, March 1999, ex-Bentley Collection, May 2012, lot 11. It’s been some time since I’ve handled an 1821 proof sovereign. This example is from the famous Bentley Collection, and, although somewhat handled, retains much of the bloom and cameo it was issued with. Rare in any grade, and only the second example that I have had the pleasure of offering since 2007.
